About the PADI Open Water Diver Course

  • The cost of the class is split into two portions, the classroom and pool class is $365 with the option of completing your certification dives with us  locally for $230. As you have the option of completing the four certification dives any where in the world, so if you are headed to a warm place such as Florida or the Caribbean, take the course completion forms and complete your certification in the ocean or other destination.
  • We also offer the four completion dives locally, hence the second cost. Together we will dive in the local waters of Pearl Lake or other local dive location and complete the four check out dives.
  •  The costs include everything you will need to be certified except mask, fins and snorkel. We are a PADI shop, the only one in the area. PADI is recognized everywhere. We will spend about 22 hours of instruction time for the PADI Open Water Course
  • The only outside costs will be entry fee into the lake which is $20 each day for a total of 2 days.
  • Classes begin on a Tuesday evening, it is best to pick up the materials for the class before it starts to read and be ready for the class that night.  For dates on the next available class please check our calendar.

What you will expect from the class, dates and times

Thank you for inquiring about Azimuth Scuba’s PADI open Water Scuba Diver Course.

We are a PADI shop, the only one in the area. PADI is world wide, 80% of the dive operations world wide are PADI and is recognized everywhere. So once the completion of the course has been achieved the certification is good anywhere you wish to go to dive. We will spend about 22 hours of instruction time for the PADI Open Water Course

Class schedule:

We have classes beginning on Tuesday evenings @ 6pm til 9pm here at Azimuth Scuba. Check for next available class dates.

You will need to pick up the materials for the class, preferably a week before starting as this will give you a chance to read up and prepare for the class. I have had many students who have not opened the book before class. Though it makes it easier  if you have had a chance to read and study before hand.

The materials include;

Student  Folder: This will need to be completed and brought into class. A Medical Wavier and Release of Liability is printed on the inside of the folder, all the Medical questions will need to be answered with a “Yes” or “No” on the

corresponding line next to the question.

If there is a question which you have answered “Yes” to we will need to have a Medical Waiver signed by your Physician prior to getting into the water. Normally there isn’t many issues that will restrict you from being able to obtain a diving certification. The concern is there are no medical complications due to medication or other concerns. This will be evaluated by your doctor if needed, we do have a great resource for medical questions. Divers Alert Network can assist if your doctor is unsure of what may be deemed as a contraindication for the sport of Scuba

On the reverse side of the folder they will also notice on the back is a check off of course completion steps which is completed by us (the instructor). This is a in-house copy of your information, the folder is kept here for a record of

each students course involvement, completion and future instruction in the future if any of the students decide to advance (which I recommend and keeps you diving).

Student Logbook: The logbook is a personal log of each of your dives. As a Certified diver you will log each dive much like a journal to record when, where and what you had seen on the dives. There are many pages for you to log the amazing dives you will do after your certification.

Inside the first few pages of your new logbook you will see a duplicate of what your Student folder has to record the training you will complete during your PADI Open Water Course, this is for your own records to show you have completed the

necessary training steps toward their PADI Open Water Diver Certification.

Student PADI Open Water Manual: The manual consists of 5 chapters covering the different aspects of Scuba Diving.

This is a very comprehensive explanation of all the information you need to know about safe scuba diving. At the end of each of the chapters are Knowledge review questions, the questions pertain to information you have read in each chapter.

We will discuss each of these questions in the classroom to help understand in greater detail.

Class Schedule:

Tuesday evening 6pm - 9pm, @ Azimuth Scuba we will be discussing chapters 1,2,3 knowledge reviews from the PADI student Open Water Manual

Thursday evening 6pm - 9pm,@ Azimuth Scuba we will be discussing chapters 4,5 knowledge reviews from the PADI student Open Water Manual

Saturday morning @ 9am. We will begin the pool sessions to learn the skills needed to Scuba Dive safely and comfortably.  As we are not fish with gills this is where we become aquatinted with breathing underwater and how to operate our equipment so you can enjoy the beauty of the underwater world.

Sunday morning  @10 am. We will continue with skills needed to be confident and safe in the water while diving. This will prepare you for your "check out dives" which can be done with us at Pearl Lake or a warm destination you may be planing to head.

The cost of the class without the check out dives, is $350. This includes the materials needed (not mask, fins or snorkel), classroom sessions and pool sessions.

To complete your certification four "check out dives" need to be completed. We conduct these dives at Pearl Lake or other local dive locations. The dives are conducted on a;

Saturday morning 745am - 1 pm, @Peal Lake

or the afternoon session from 12:30pm -5pm

and

Sunday morning 745am - 1 pm, @Peal Lake

or the afternoon session from 12:30pm -5pm

We will make 4 dives total (2 each morning), we will perform the same skills you learned in the pool.

Then we will dive the lake to look at the items which have been sunk such as boats, a bus, plane,

submarine and lots of other neat things to explore under the water.

The cost of the "check out dives" at the lake is $230 per person.  We will supply everything you will need to be certified except mask, fins and snorkel as we had for the pool sessions in the PADI Class.

The only outside costs will be entry fee into the lake which is $20 each day for a total of 2 days. You will need your own mask, fins and snorkel for the class.
